Tsunami Survival

Tsunami Advice (subject to change)

  • If there are no evacuation routes defined, move to higher ground
(At least 100 feet in elevation from sea level)
  • Move on foot when possible, do not drive
(espcially if the wave is immanent or emergency vehicles are using them)
  • Do not collect belongings or even supplies
(especially if not in a remote location with harsh conditions)
  • Preferably a mile inland
(if there is likely to be time)
  • To the highest floor of a sturdy building (STAY there)
  • Stay tuned to the radio for Weather or news broadcasts

Having read suggestions, if you are in a hazardous location, consider

  • Where  evacuation routes are for work and home
  • Attend all community tsunami awareness activities
  • Prepare a way to organise residents quickly for a safe departure
  • Prepare supplies and wind up radios, for swift ‘snatch’ collection, around your property. But only along your escape route.
  • Security and storage of prized possessions to eliminate any resident from delaying an exit to retrieve them. As it is never worth it.
